Greater Chaco Landscape Chacoan Outlier located on BLM Public Lands in New Mexico. Chacoan Outlier construction occurred primarily between AD 900 and 1100.
Energy industrialization of the Greater Chaco Landscape poses complex issues on the long-term stewardship of the land, impacts on sacred cultural sites and the health and well being of communities and families living in the area. There are 36 Outliers within the Greater Chaco Landscape. The Outliers are not within the boundaries of Chaco Cultural National Historical Park. They are managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Currently, the Bureau of Land Management is proposing additional oil and gas leases throughout the area. The purpose of this project was, and still is, to continue to provide a visual voice to educate and promote stewardship of these sacred cultural sites for future generations.
Using an aerial perspective Greater Chaco Viewscapes share a sense of place to communicate the meaning and importance of the Sacred Sites connected to Chaco Canyon known as Outliers.
The Project creates a visual voice and awareness for the importance of developing a cultural resource management plan for the next seven generations.
